The Blackberry Z10 launched in Canada on February 6. Thanks to Telus, we’ve had a very extensive chance to review the phone for our readers to give you our true thoughts on how it ranks. Our tester has used both the Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhones quite extensively so knew exactly how the Blackberry Z10 would measure up.
The Blackberry Z10 feels like a next generation phone. In comparison, the iPhone, with its large home button, seems outdated. “I love the clean look of the Blackberry Z10,” said our tester, adding, “The screen is big, but the overall unit is still trim.”
While it took a bit to get used to, the swiping actions are different but intuitive. Also, unlike the iPhone, the Blackberry Z10 offers the option to expand the phone’s memory; no need to upgrade if you’ve loaded too many apps or taken too many videos on your phone.
Also, our tester appreciated the Blackberry’s Hub feature: “Seeing all your notifications and communications in one place is great.” On the unified profile of your contacts, our tester added: “I really like how the information about your contacts is brought into one place.”
The camera also has some added features. In addition to boasting an eight megapixels camera, the camera offers burst mode, allowing you to take multiple photos at once. Have someone blinking? Simply replace their face with a frame of them with their eyes open and voila: a composite shot of the perfect photo. Handy when you’re taking multiple photos of wiggling children.
Other standouts: our tester particularly liked the bed-side mode. Simply pull a “shade” down and turn off all of your notifications. If you’re a work at home mom, where work and personal time intermix, being able to easily shut down your phone can be a sanity-saver.
