Vocabulary For Facebook

If you’re new on Social Media and  Facebook then you’ll find that there seems to be a vocabulary that arrises when you spend any time there.  You are absolutely correct.  To work with building your business fan page I’ve provided a few definitions here to help you feel more comfortable.

Facebook Page:

This is a page for business, organizations and the likes to share information more officially and share more so with those who choose to connect with them.  Recent Facebook changes have allowed for further interaction and comments without having to ‘Like’ the actual page. This is going to allow for a lot more interaction over time and hopefully more exposure for businesses.  Pages can be enhanced with Apps.

Facebook Apps:

Apps are web applications that can be loaded into your Facebook fan page to enhance the user experience.  This button enables you to share your brand in Facebooks’ user experience.  This may mean adding other social media applications to show them straight in your fan page tabs or even creating a custom landing page that gives a user a call to action.

Facebook Profile:

It’s important to note here that a profile is for individuals and not for business.  Facebook reserves the right to remover your profile if it is being used for business.  Profiles may also be enhanced with applications as mentioned above.

Facebook “Like”:

Anytime you click “Like” on an Advertisement, Page or other content off of Facebook you are connecting.  This “Like” is then displayed through Facebook on your wall, timeline, your friends newsfeed and enables those that you have “Liked” to send information to your News Feed or send you direct messages.

Facebook Unique URL or Username:

In your settings you may choose to select your own URL or Username.  I highly encourage this as it helps you get found. And you want your business to be found or you wouldn’t be creating the business fan page in the first place!   This will appear in your browser after it is set such.  An example being http://www.facebook.com/EntrepreneurMomNowVancouver  .  If you do not secure a Unique URL then the address will read facebook.com/ with a series of numbers here.

I hope that you’ve found these few Facebook Vocab tips useful.  Feel free to add questions on other Facebook Vocabulary in the comments below!   Here’s to your Facebook Business Fan Page Success!
