Do you ever have days where you feel so depleted that you can’t string a sentence together? Where your thoughts are cloudy, your words are jumbled, and inspiration and motivation are hard to come by? As an entrepreneur mom, it’s easy enough to happen. String together several weeks of 50% work and 50% mom and ta da, you find yourself experiencing sluggishness and apathy. It might even come with physical symptoms like headaches, insomnia, and muscle aches. These are your mind and body’s way of telling you to slow down and recharge.
How do you recharge? Not everyone recharges in the same way. For some, it’s a quiet, relaxing night reading a book. For other’s it’s an adrenaline fueled workout. For me, there’s nothing like eating chocolate while watching reality TV! Whatever it is you choose, you know it has worked if it leaves you feeling refreshed, restored, and reinvigorated.
If you are wondering what the best activity is to recharge your batteries, consider the following aspects of your life:
PHYSICAL: Have you been taking care of your body by getting physical activity and proper nutrition? Maybe a new workout or recipe is just what you need.
MENTAL: Do you have things that make you feel competent? Have you learned anything new lately? Perhaps now’s the time to book those guitar lessons you’ve been wanting.
SPIRITUAL: Do you feel engaged in a community? Have you been tending to your community or spiritual commitments, or missing out because you don’t have the time?
SOCIAL: Have you been spending time with friends and family? Do you have colleagues you can talk to about your profession?
Entrepreneur moms may sometimes place so much focus on the career and family aspects of their lives that the other parts go unnoticed for a while. Perhaps for you, recharging will mean implementing one or more of these self-care activities back into your life. Recharging works best when it is done as a preventative measure instead of when things get dire. Even 10 minutes a day of a relaxing activity can be enough to head off stress.
