The great thing about a new year are the opportunities that are available. Whether or not you “believe” in new years resolutions, clearing the slate and starting new is a refreshing way to start the year and renew your vows to yourself and your business.
My favourite thing to do is to look at the year ahead as a whole and plan what I’d like to do, and write in goals for a particular month. It’s nice to do this ahead of time, before the month gets filled up with obligations, activities and regular day to day life. It’s also particularly important when you have major deadlines in some months, and to see where you can balance creative time, work time and family time in other months.
In 2013 I took a blogging course with Kim Page Gluckie and i learnt so much in that course (which you can read about here and here) that really reinforced the idea of planning the year ahead and focussing in what it is you want to achieve. We used flip charts at that course, but having children in the house, flip charts hanging on a wall will inevitably lead to vandalization.
I’ve turned to Pinterest for inspiration and for free printable calendars, and blogging calendars, to add in my goals, my tasks and chores for the year ahead. I plan on adding them above my desk (out of the way of children) so they’re easily accessible to be changed, added and be reminded of the big plans I had for the year!
Here are some of the great finds! Happy Planning!
This one is really detailed and would work not just for blogging but for any task orientated business!
Less detailed than the one above. I used this one to work on my month-to-month forecasts
If you’re in direct sales, it’s just as important to track expenses, sales, bookings and goals
