Many business people underestimate the power of LinkedIn for business and what the benefits are from participating.
LinkedIn is the best social media platform for business to business (B2B). It’s not a ‘social’ platform where we chit-chat about the weather or our latest adventure; it’s a platform where business people look to do business. Professionals engage in professional advice, support, connecting with potential customers, involving themselves in groups that are industry specific and creating a network of like-minded individuals.
Look for our upcoming articles where we will talk more about strategizing for LinkedIn, but for now, we want to make it very simple for anyone to start engaging with other business people on LinkedIn, and it all starts with a simple ‘thank you’.
When I invite someone to connect with me on LinkedIn and they accept that invitation, I know that this is a unique opportunity to try to connect on a deeper level with that person.
A simple “thank you for connecting” message can go a long way nurturing relationships and building communities – which is what all Social Media is about.
So, the next time you invite someone to connect on LinkedIn:
Check their profile to ensure they are a legitimate business (be aware of ‘empty’ profiles which, unfortunately happens everywhere) and read through their summary to see if there is some sort of connection between you and this business. Look for the following potentials:
• Similar interest
• Industry expert
When your invitation to connect is accepted; a simple ‘thank you’ starts the engagement and provides a sense of legitimacy for you and your business.
A sample of what we like to say is below. Feel free to get some ideas from it, but please don’t copy it verbatim for your use.
Hey [name – and ALWAYS personalize!]; I just wanted to say thank you for connecting!
Please have a look at www.lexabi.com and see if there is anything that we might be able to help you with. In turn, send me your information so I too can have a closer look.
We send out a monthly eNews that provides Free Digital Design, Marketing & Communications Consulting on a regular basis, so be sure to sign up for that and, if you have one more extra minute, ‘like’ us on our Facebook page.
Thanks and CHEERS to successful networking opportunities!
It’s that easy to start a network of potentially powerful and influential connections.
