We’re all using it, it’s free, it’s great for little businesses and is a great tool in our marketing plan.
Unfortunately many small businesses are using Facebook by spamming other pages, sometimes not knowingly.
Here are 3 ways to make sure you have good Facebook manners
Using your personal page to promote your business: Your personal page is about YOU, not your business. Sometime we mama’s do think of our businesses as a part of us, but it’s not. Your cousin five times removed that lives out of the country does not want to hear about your business ten times a day. They want to see baby pics, and hear how you are doing. This isn’t to say you can’t talk about it, just don’t annoy them with constant yammering about 25% off.
Solution: A fan page! Fan Pages are easy to set up and are free as well. People that have “liked” your fan page WANT to be there. They WANT to hear you yammer on all day about 25% off.
Personal Page = Personal Info
Business Fan Page = Business. Check out LKR blog for lots of facebook tips.
Spam. Nobody likes spam, but most people don’t realize that by posting random messages on other pages doesn’t get you more “likes”. Posting 25% off on every page you can think of is spam, and will likely just get deleted.
Spam spam spam. Don’t do it.
If you’d like to interact with other pages, comment on their posts as your business page.
Tagging other pages: Please, do not tag (or @) a lot of pages at once. This is spammy. Tag one page and tell people why you’re mentioning them.
This update is informative, and useful to your fans. Tagging everyone you’ve ever met at the same time, will make people zone right over your post. Tagging other business pages is great to show appreciation or mad love for another business. Do not use tagging to poach customers from another page, to be mean spirited or to assume affiliation when non exists.
Remember, you reap what you sow. If you’re positive, respectful and professional, you’ll receive the same back, especially on Facebook where reciprocation is key.
