“You gotta let the world know what you want and who you are because that’s the first rule of bein’ a star” is the quote Dayna Steele (@daynasteele) put up on the screens for us to see in her presentation at the recent 2013 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration conference in Walt Disney World.
There were many inspiring speakers throughout the two day event, see my post Disney Teaches Social Media part 1 for the Disney Parks Social Media team presentation re-capped!
Compare = Despair. Protect your brand. Play nice and noone will believe in you as much as you will believe in yourself.
I also enjoyed Dayna Steele from Daily Success Tip. She spoke about resonating with your readers, and using ‘You’ more than ‘I’ in your writing and she suggested we write as if we were writing to our best friend in our posts. She says “find your passion, find people who share that passion, and then feed them.” As a Radio Hall of Famer, she quoted a legendary rocker as saying “Life is too short to have anything but delusional thoughts about yourself.” and made us believe it. You need to believe in yourself or no-one else will.
Jackie Huba, another speaker at the event, spoke about turning followers into fanatics [in her new book Monster Loyalty].
Shannon Miller, Olympic Gymnast and mother, believes that “social media magnifies the power of mom”. I love that! She also reminded us that once you put something out there in social media, it’s OUT there, there’s no take backs. Her tip is to count to 10 before tweeting something if you’re in a bad mood or feeling bitter.
Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. I was invited to attend and received perks and SWAG as part of the weekend at Walt Disney World for Disney Social Media Moms, but conference fees and airfare was paid for by me.
