As we welcome Spring with arms wide open, I want to encourage you to continue, or start taking small steps, to boost your wellness.
Life is about living it and Spring is a perfect season to motivate us to do that today and for the summer ahead! Nutrition is more than eating healthy. It is more than counting calories (I don’t want you to do that!). It is about being your best because you have taken care of your body. It is about having more energy not less. Here are some tips on how to have more energy in your life because who doesn’t want that! Every mom/woman pursing her passionate business definitely does!
7 Ways to Boost Your Energy
1. Incorporate Physical Activity
Start with 10 minutes a day and increase. You will release serotonin and decreases fatigue. Plus you can take advantage of the warmer weather and get some Vitamin D as well!
2. Swap a Meal for a Smoothie
Having a smoothie decreases the energy it takes to digest food and break down by having it in a simpler form. You will have more energy following a meal to get back to work, play with your kids or tackle that to do list. You might even have more energy to head outside to walk, run or hit the playground!
3. Eat Dark Leafy Green Vegetables
Green is associated with Spring, the time of renewal and refreshing, vital energy. Greens are full of vitamins and nutrients and great for improving circulation, lifting the spirit, purifying the blood and strengthening the immune system. Broccoli, collards, bok choy, kale, mustard greens, rabe, arugula and dandelion greens are some of the many to choose from.
4. Start Your Morning With Hot Water and Lemon
Lemon kick starts your digestive system before you give it food, as well as helps cleanse of the liver and kidneys. Give both a little lemon love because they work so hard.
5. Surround Yourself With Encouraging Relationships
It is so important to have people in your life that encourage, support and inspire you to be your best. You time is precious and do not waste it with people that will “pull your goodness” out. Friendships should rejuvenate and encourage. Choose your friends wisely.
6. Avoid Sugar and Artificial Sweeteners
Use gentle sweeteners like maple syrup, brown rice syrup, agave nectar and stevia. Also eat sweet vegetables such as yams, carrots and beets. Adapt a low-glycemic lifestyle to stabilize blood sugar levels and decrease your energy ups and downs.
7. Incorporate Omega 3’s
I highly recommend a supplement that is bio- available and potency guaranteed to give your body optimal levels. As well as having 6-8 grams/week of omega-3 from food sources (walnuts, salmon, hemp seeds, ground flax seeds). Omega-3 benefits include give a boost in energy, keep your heart and brain healthy and promotes a decrease in inflammation throughout your body.
I challenge you to do two steps this week, then add two more steps to the next week and so on until you have tried them all! See the difference and know that being kind to your body helps you to be present as a mom, entrepreneur, spouse, friend and woman.
