At Christina Parker Photography, because I specialize in children, I have a soft spot for charities that affect children and families.
In February 2013, I started an annual event for children who are born with congenital heart defects, where they have a complimentary session and a print of their heart child and their siblings during Congenital Defect Awareness Week. Being one of those parents in the hospital, running back and forth for appointments, it was never on my mind to have a professional portrait taken, now it is my opportunity to give back.
I was the first in Canada that participated in “Celebration of Smiles” with other professional photographers of America. Donations from Business Headshots of our Entrepreneur Mom Now Pink Partners were donated to “Operation Smile” to help transform a child with a cleft palate to give them a new everlasting smile. Thank you!
In 2014, I participated in raising funds through a day of mini sessions, collecting clothes, and creating promotional material that is still in the works, in support of a local registrar charity, called “S.O.S. Ukraine”. S.O.S. Ukraine helps the poor in Western Ukraine, by providing, food, clothing, water, school supplies, and medical aid. 100% volunteer run, every dollar is used directly to assist the poor. Funds are greatly needed, and even a small donation of $10, will assist in helping provide basic necessities to children. Please check out their blog and if you can give a little, it will help lighten their load. www.sosukrainecharity.blogspot.ca All donations will receive a tax receipt.
I’m also teaming up with Gina Dickson, founder of F.I.B.B. “Families Impacted by Bullying”. Gina’s daughter, was bullied to the point of receiving brain damage. Gina’s on a mission to get buddy benches into school yards, so if a child was lonely, they would go to this bench, and another child would know they needed a friend. She is educating schools through a plastic zipper bracelet known as a “Zip it.”
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, say nothing at all”. “Zip it”!
See bullying going on do not ‘Zip it!” say something to someone!!
Bracelets cost $3 each. Most of us know of someone that at one point or another has been bullied. I am looking for children volunteers, ages 5-18 that would like to participate in a personal photography project that I hope will benefit not just this charity, but bring more awareness and kindness in our actions. Please contact me at email@example.com, if you know of anyone or have a child that would like to participate.
Thank you!! It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we can work together!
