Getting Exposed: How CHILDish products got featured in Today’s Parent

CHILDish sells personalized melamine dishes, lunchboxes and water bottles and launched in January 2011.  Within nine months, CHILDish had been featured on,,, CityLine TV and in Today’s Parent magazine. The number one question I am asked by other momprenuers is: “HOW”?

When I first launched my business, I sent a handful of emails to the editors of major Canadian child focused magazines, including Today’s Parent. My email was short and to the point: I introduced myself and my business, attached a small image of one of my products and included my contact information and links to my website, facebook page and twitter.

About a month later I received a phone call from a writer with Today’s Parent magazine saying they’d like to feature the personalized CHILDish lunchbox in their back to school issue. I remember being very calm on the phone, taking all the information on where and when I needed to send product samples. Just before I hung up I couldn’t hold it in anymore and yelled “I AM SO EXCITED!!!!” I shipped off a few samples the next day and patiently waited until the print issue hit news stands in late August. In addition to the profile in the magazine, the editor of Today’s Parent took a CHILDish lunchbox with her when she was invited to talk about unique back to school items on a CityLine TV segment. What a lucky benefit!

In July 2011 CHILDish was featured on as one of 17 Kids’ Products by Canadian Momprenuers. The writer of this article had asked on twitter for recommendations of Canadian Momprenuers. Nicola from recommended me along with a whole bunch of other Edmonton momprenuers. Not only was I featured as one of the 17, but my product image was front and center. I credit that to my amazing photographer Carlin Getz who captured such a warm product image.
