What or who inspired you to start your business?
My grandparents owned a convenience store in the Philippines and my parents owned a home electronics repair shop in Vancouver – both operated 30+ years. Seeing this photo is like seeing three generations. After I was laid off from my day job, I was determined to accomplish the same dream through my love for art. My husband quit his job a year after I started my business to join me.
What are your most popular products or services?
I mainly sell my works as Giclees – fine art quality limited edition prints on canvas that I texture with various art media to sustain their authenticity – a more affordable option to my original paintings.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love that my product is completely my own – creations straight from the heart and soul. I love the freedom: spending time with my family at the beach in the middle of the day is truly bliss.
How do you balance being a mom and entrepreneur?
I take it day-by-day and take care of the important tasks first. Working from home with a three-year-old and a weaning one-year-old is challenging. But I wouldn’t trade it in for anything. I love what I do.
What single piece of advice would you give moms starting their business?
Keeping a business going requires passion, creativity and a positive attitude. If you can answer why you chose to start a business, where your answer does not include for money or flexibility, you’re off to a great start.
How do you relax?
Socializing, yoga, music, wine and of course… painting.
What is your motto?
As an artist, Life is like a blank canvas. It’s up to you how much color and joy you want to put into it. Don’t make it to your death bed having lived only shades of black and white.
What makes you GO?
The positive support and communication that I have from my fans who truly appreciate and believe in my work. I have made some amazing relationships and for that, I owe it to them to keep on going.
