Fun. Friendly. Fast.
Amy van Weelderen is the founder and owner of Lullaby League, a service that connects busy parents in need of part time babysitting with high quality university students. Parents attend an hour long mixer to meet and interview dozens of fantastic sitter candidates face to face. It’s like speed dating… only it’s for parents and babysitters!
What or who inspired you to start your business?
My son is the real inspiration for Lullaby League’s success. Every day my son inspires me to be my absolute best and keep at it. I make him as proud as he makes me.
What are your most popular products or services?
Lullaby League provides one specific service: I enable parents and sitters to meet face to face in a fun filled social environment. Parents get sitters and students get great part time work.
What do you love most about what you do?
I enjoy meeting all the great sitters and parents but I really love when I can connect a frazzled mom with an amazing sitter. Knowing that I have helped a fellow parent out in time of need is really great.
How do you balance being a mom and entrepreneur?
It is a constant struggle, and it gets easier as my son gets older. I do try to focus on work during the day when he is at school and try to stay focused on family life the rest of the time.
What single piece of advice would you give moms starting their business?
Not to sound cliché, but just do it. Sure, you might not know everything in the beginning but have confidence in yourself and your business and keep at it.
What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is that I will not get to do everything I have in store for my life. I have very big plans!
What motivates you?
When my 8 year old tells me the plans he has for Lullaby League when he takes it over (or as he likes to say…when I give it to him). Growing up, entrepreneurship was never discussed so it is hugely gratifying for me to show my son all the options available to him when he gets older
What makes you GO?
My family, my work, my city and my energy. I am a doer and I like to get things done and move on to the next exciting adventure. I feel so fortunate to have this great opportunity and I plan to go, go and grow with Lullaby League.
