What or who inspired you to start your business?
I was inspired by a freelance graphic designer I had worked with. She was always busy and had enough work, but she somehow had created balance in her life as a mom by working around her children’s schedules. I decided I wanted that control and balance when I had a family, too, so I began working on contracts while also working full-time. Then after my son was born, I began working solely as a consultant.
What are your most popular products or services?
Most of my work involves managing projects with multiple stakeholders. Together we determine our goal and outcomes and then I coordinate our activities.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love getting to know different organizations and their challenges. It’s a privilege to be a trusted member of their team. And I have a passion for injury prevention so my work is a joy.
How do you balance being a mom and entrepreneur?
My business allows me to juggle work around my son’s schedule. My Blackberry and other technology keeps me connected when I’m out of the office. My supportive husband helps, too!
What single piece of advice would you give moms starting their business?
The best thing I did was find a strong team of people that I could call on at all times. My network of graphic designers, web designers, writers and evaluators have been crucial over the years
How do you relax?
Taking my dogs for a walk. Hanging out on the couch watching The Big Bang Theory with my son. Enjoying a drink with my husband. Reading. Tweeting.
What place inspires you and why?
I am always surprised by how inspired I am after a walk in the woods or by a river. Problems seem to somehow make sense after I’ve been in nature.
What is your biggest fear?
Other than snakes, my biggest fear is failure. I don’t want to ever let someone down, whether it’s a client, my family, my friends or myself. I always want to accomplish what I set out to do.
What is your motto?
I try to live by Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s words, “It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.”
What motivates you?
I want to amaze my clients. One of the best compliments I ever got was, “Thanks, Liza. You made our organization look good.”
What makes you GO?
I love seeing a plan come together. Whether it is hosting an event, printing a report or holding an important meeting, I love to see an idea come to fruition.
