What inspired you to start your business?
I was inspired to start my business because I wanted to be at home with my husband and my kids. My husband and I had stay at home Moms and felt it was important for me to be home all the time. I left work full-time when my son was born 13 years ago and never went back.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
The best advice I can give is make sure you have done your research and that what you are doing, you are passionate about. If you are trying to make a quick buck etc then a home business is not for you. It is not 8-5 Monday to Friday. You have to work harder.
What marketing strategies do you find to be the most effective?
My most effective marketing strategies is word of mouth. I get so much business just from people who have been to a party and had one of my cakes. Also my website is very effective. I get some from social media.
As a solopreneur, how do you keep yourself motivated and on-track?
I don’t have time not to be motivated. I am busy all the time whether making things in advance or at the rental kitchen baking. There is always something that has to be done and being that I mix that all in with being a Mom to 2 kids aged 13 and 11 and 2 dogs, there is no time to be off track. I am very organized!
When do you find time to work on your business?
I work on my business everyday. Sometimes more than other days but 7 days a week. There isn’t something I am not doing that is related to the business.
What business goals have you set out for yourself this year?
My goal is now and always has been to provide customers the best product and cake design for their money. It brings me great joy to see a child’s face light up when you show them their birthday cake and it is exactly what they want. Anymore is a bonus.
